The provincial government on Thursday launched Pakistan’s first-ever tea tourism initiative, with Shinkiari Tea Gardens in Mansehra selected as the pilot site.
The announcement was made during a meeting between KP’s Secretary for Culture, Tourism, Archaeology and Museums, Dr. Abdul Samad, and a delegation from FAO Pakistan, including UN FAO Head Ms. Kiyal and International Tea Consultant Mr. John Snell, a handout said.
Dr. Samad stated that the project aims to transform scenic tea-growing regions into ecotourism and agri-tourism destinations.
The statement said that the visitors will be offered guided tours of tea plantations, tea plucking experiences, cultural evenings, and eco-friendly accommodation.
“This initiative will enhance tourism, promote sustainable agriculture, reduce reliance on imported tea, and create employment opportunities for local communities,” said Dr. Samad.
The officials said that the Shinkiari project will serve as a model for future expansion into other tea-growing districts like Shangla, Upper Swat, and Upper Dir.
