Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Wednesday directed officials to expedite work on the under-construction Chapra Dam and Daur Right Bank Canal projects in Haripur, expressing concern over delays and stressing their timely completion.
The minister issued the directives during a visit to Haripur to inspect the progress of the two irrigation schemes on the instructions of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, a handout said.
Accompanied by MPA Akbar Ayub and senior officials of the Irrigation Department, including the director general of Small Dams, the superintending engineer and the executive engineer, Mr Khan reviewed construction work at both sites.
At Chapra Dam, officials briefed the minister on the progress of construction, hydrology, spillway and outlet works.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the pace of work, Mr Khan directed the authorities to accelerate construction while ensuring strict adherence to quality and engineering standards.
He said the Chapra Dam project would play a significant role in promoting agriculture and improving water management in Haripur, adding that no negligence or unnecessary delay would be tolerated.
The minister also inspected the under-construction Daur Right Bank Canal, where he was briefed on the project’s progress by departmental officials.
He instructed the authorities to maintain transparency, quality and engineering standards throughout the execution of the project.
Mr Khan said the provincial government was committed to ensuring the timely completion of development projects and providing essential public services through the effective utilisation of available resources.
He described the Chapra Dam and Daur Right Bank Canal as vital projects for the economic development of Haripur and said their completion remained a priority for the provincial government.
