PESHAWAR
Members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the province and a reported increase in terrorist incidents across several districts.
During the provincial assembly session, lawmakers highlighted recent incidents of terrorism in Lower Dir, Bannu and other areas, calling for effective measures to restore peace and ensure public safety.
Ruling party lawmaker from Bajaur, Anwar Zeb Khan, said that after the merger of the former tribal areas with KP, people had hoped for development and stability, but the situation had instead continued to worsen.
“Even in the modern era, mobile signals remain unavailable in parts of Bajaur, while insecurity has created fear among residents,” he said, adding that the people of the district were facing serious challenges due to ongoing instability.
Provincial lawmaker from Bannu, Pakhtoon Yar Khan, also voiced concern over the increase in incidents of terrorism and unrest in the district. He said that repeated security incidents had caused severe distress among local residents and that curfews were being imposed in several areas due to worsening security conditions.
Opposition member Nisar Baz Khan expressed alarm over the situation in Bajaur and other merged districts, saying that incidents involving extortion, targeted killings and bomb attacks had become frequent.
He claimed that the situation in the merged tribal districts had reached a critical point and called on both the federal and provincial governments to take concrete and serious steps to counter terrorism and restore peace.
The lawmakers urged authorities to adopt a comprehensive strategy to address security challenges and protect citizens from the growing threat of militancy in the province.
