A meeting of the Provincial Assembly’s Standing Committee on Tourism, Culture, Archaeology and Museums reviewed the proposed development schemes for the financial year 2026-27, with officials briefing lawmakers on initiatives aimed at expanding tourism facilities and improving institutional capacity.
The meeting, chaired by MPA Sher Ali Afridi, was attended by committee members and lawmakers Arbab Usman, Rajab Ali Abbasi, Amina Sardar, Hadiya Bibi, Nilofar Babar and Shazia Jadoon, along with officials from the Tourism, Culture, Archaeology and Museums Department.
Officials informed the committee that a total of 58 projects have been included in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27, comprising 32 ongoing schemes and 26 new initiatives.
The new projects include seven schemes related to archaeology, eight tourism projects and 11 initiatives under the public-private partnership (PPP) framework.
During the meeting, committee members discussed measures to enhance the capacity of the KP Culture and Tourism Authority and improve service delivery in the tourism sector.
Committee Chairman Sher Ali Afridi directed authorities to establish modern facilitation centres at entry and exit points of tourist destinations, install effective signboards for visitor guidance, ensure deployment of tourism police and improve online portals and mobile applications for tourists.
He also directed the department to present a detailed briefing on cultural affairs in the next meeting.
The committee members also proposed various recommendations regarding the new development schemes and expressed their commitment to promoting tourism, culture and archaeology sectors to make the province an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists.
