The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Police has been placed on high alert as heavy monsoon rains and the risk of flash floods pose potential threats to tourists visiting popular destinations in the Hazara and Malakand divisions, said a handout.
On the directives of Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Culture, Tourism, Archaeology and Museums Malik Adeel Iqbal, the Tourism Police of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) has intensified monitoring, guidance and emergency assistance operations at tourist spots across the province.
In a statement issued on Monday, Malik Adeel Iqbal said the protection of tourists’ lives and property was among the provincial government’s top priorities. He said all relevant departments had been directed to further strengthen precautionary measures during the monsoon season.
He said Tourism Police personnel were actively guiding visitors, monitoring vulnerable locations and ensuring timely assistance in case of emergencies. Tourists have been advised to avoid rivers, streams, lakes and other risk-prone areas due to the possibility of flash floods.
The Tourism Police is also monitoring roads affected by landslides, assisting in traffic management, guiding tourists towards safer routes and providing updates regarding travel conditions, the statement added.
Malik Adeel Iqbal urged tourists to follow safety instructions issued by authorities and check weather forecasts, road conditions and other travel-related information before visiting tourist destinations.
He advised visitors to contact the KP Tourism Helpline 1422, which remains available round the clock, for information and assistance before travelling.
The Special Assistant said the provincial government and KPCTA were utilising all available resources to ensure a safe, comfortable and well-managed tourism experience for visitors across the province.
