To counter aerial terrorism threats, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has acquired a state-of-the-art anti-drone system.
The new technology aims at enhancing the protection of high-profile government officials and will also be deployed as part of security arrangements during Muharram processions.
According to official sources on Wednesday, the anti-drone system is capable of detecting and neutralizing hostile drones from several miles away. It is specifically designed to protect key government buildings, public figures, and major public events. The system marks a crucial upgrade in the province’s counter-terrorism capabilities.
The sources said that in the past, drones had been used by terrorists to carry out attacks in areas such as North Waziristan and the southern districts. Additionally, during heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, drone technology was reportedly utilized in cross-border hostilities. In response to these evolving threats, the KP Police has taken steps to bolster its aerial defense mechanisms.
Inspector General of KP Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, confirmed the development, stating that the force is being equipped with modern weapons and technology. He added that efforts are ongoing to further enhance the police’s capabilities in light of the changing nature of terrorism. The goal, he emphasized, is to ensure the safety and protection of citizens by making the police force as modern and as effective as possible.
