PESHAWAR
The 60th National Table Tennis Championship is set to take place from January 23 to 27, 2025, in Lahore under the auspices of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation. To form the best men’s and women’s teams representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two-day trials will be held on January 11 and 12 at the Table Tennis Academy in Qayyum Stadium, Peshawar, starting at 9 AM.
This announcement was made by Ahmed Nawaz Malizai, Secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Table Tennis Association. He emphasized that the trials aim to select top players from the province to compete in the national championship. However, he clarified that participants will not be provided travel or daily allowances by the association.
A selection committee has been constituted to oversee the trials. The committee is chaired by Ahmed Nawaz Malizai, with members Zahid Khan, Mian Absar Ali, Shehzad Islam, and Amna Mehmood.
Ahmed Nawaz Malizai stated that around 150 male and female players from Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan are expected to participate in the trials. Associations from all seven divisions of the province have assured their active involvement in the process.
Highlighting the association’s efforts to promote table tennis at the grassroots level, Malizai said a robust strategy has been devised to scout talent across various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that the trials are a crucial step in identifying emerging talent and providing opportunities for players to compete at national and international levels.
Malizai reiterated that the association’s goal is to foster the growth of table tennis in the province, ensuring that young and talented players are given the platform to shine and represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on larger stages.
