The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will establish an Artificial Intelligence Authority and launch a series of digital governance initiatives, including free public Wi-Fi in Peshawar and a Cyber Security Operations Centre, Information Minister Shafi Jan said on Saturday.
In a statement, the minister said the provincial government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, was taking practical steps to promote technology-driven public service delivery and modern governance.
He said the government had allocated Rs1 billion in the current fiscal year’s budget for the establishment of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Artificial Intelligence Authority, which would promote the use of artificial intelligence in public services, improve the efficiency of government systems and support AI-related initiatives in the education sector.
Mr Jan said investment in modern technology would create employment opportunities and contribute to the future development of the province’s youth.
He said the government had also earmarked Rs500 million to launch a free public Wi-Fi service at various public locations in Peshawar, adding that the facility would be expanded to other districts in phases.
Highlighting other initiatives under the government’s Good Governance Roadmap, the minister said Rs374 million had been allocated for the modernisation of the Digital Land Record System.
He said the budget also included Rs900 million for the establishment of the KP Cyber Security Operations Centre and Rs300 million for the digital integration of emergency services aimed at improving coordination and ensuring timely public service delivery.
The minister said the provincial government was pursuing digital governance reforms in line with the vision of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf founder Imran Khan, with the objective of providing transparent, efficient and modern services to citizens.
He expressed confidence that the initiatives would help position KP as a leading province in technology and good governance.
