The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and UNICEF have agreed to further strengthen their partnership to improve child protection, social welfare services and support for vulnerable communities across the province.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between the Adviser to the Chief Minister on Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Development Malik Liaqat Ali Khan and a UNICEF delegation led by Resolu Redick at Peshawar here on Tuesday.
Secretary Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Development Sharif Hussain, Chief of the KP Child Protection and Welfare Commission Ijaz Muhammad Khan and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
The participants reviewed ongoing cooperation between the provincial government and UNICEF, with discussions focusing on strengthening child protection mechanisms, expanding social welfare initiatives and improving community-based support systems.
Officials were informed that significant progress had been made in the child protection sector with UNICEF’s technical assistance, including the formulation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection Policy and the regulatory framework for child care institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khan appreciated UNICEF’s continued support for promoting children’s rights and strengthening the province’s social welfare system. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing children with a safe, secure and nurturing environment.
The meeting agreed to strengthen family and community support systems, improve the delivery of protective services, expand District Child Protection Units, enhance the capacity of social welfare institutions and ensure integrated services for children at risk.
The UNICEF delegation reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with the provincial government, stressing that an effective child protection system was essential for ensuring the well-being and future development of children.
Both sides agreed to broaden joint initiatives aimed at promoting children’s rights, protection, education and welfare across KP.
