PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has ordered a total ban on birds hunting in 52 designated areas, including water bodies, of the province. According to a notification issued by the department, illegal hunting of the birds is detrimental to the local and migratory bird species. “Hunters’ use of electronic devices that mimic bird sounds to lure birds has been deemed detrimental to bird species. According to the new regulation, hunting is permitted only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Hunting season for pheasants and waterfowl ends on March 16. The wildlife department has vowed to take strict action against rule violators to protect bird species of the province. According to the notification, “Strict monitoring of the bird’s population will be maintained by the Wildlife Staff and hunting will be stopped as and when deemed appropriate. No special permit will be issued to any person unless he holds a valid shooting license. Any person (s) found hunting in the open areas on any day except Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays will also be immediately prosecuted.” DLP Report
