PESHAWAR
Secretary Energy and Electricity Nisar Ahmad Khan said on Monday that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s water resources have rich potential for hydropower generation. He said that foreign investment in power production from water resources in the province would be appreciated.
He expressed these views in a meeting held to discuss development so far made on the 496 Mega Watt (MW) ‘Lower Spot Gah’ hydro project in Kohistan district with the cooperation of South Korea’s state-owned energy company KHNP.
The meeting discussed the overall progress on the project in the district and future prospects of the project in terms of financial output for the province.
The chief executive engineer PEDO Naeem Khan and the manager of the Korean company Mohammad Sulaiman were also present in the meeting.
Under this agreement, 496 MW of electricity will be generated from the Lower Spot Gah hydropower project with the cooperation of the Korean company.
The project will be completed in 5 years, which is the largest hydropower project in the recent history of the province.
In the meeting, the problems faced with PPIB including IGCEP plan and NTDC at the federal level were discussed.
Different options were also discussed to take up the obstacles in the issuance of generation licenses and other issues with the federal government at the provincial level.
On this occasion, Energy Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan and Chief Executive PEDO Engineer Naeem Khan assured the Korean investor delegation for highlighting their problems on all relevant forums and effective coordination between provincial and federal government.
