Law minister chairs meeting on legal matters

A high-level meeting was held today in Peshawar under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs, Aftab Alam Advocate, to deliberate on legal matters. The meeting was attended by Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Arshad Ayub, Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Faisal Utman Khel, Secretary Law Department Akhtar Saeed Turk, Secretary Establishment Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, and senior officials from the Law Department, Home Department, Finance Department, along with representatives of other relevant departments.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on important legal and administrative agendas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Legislative Committee reviewed the proposed amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prosecution Service (Constitutional Functions and Powers) Act, 2025
The second agenda item focused on consultations regarding amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Service Tribunal Act, 1974. The proposed amendments aim to enhance transparency, efficiency and judicial fairness in the decisions of service tribunals by clearly defining their jurisdiction, criteria for the appointment of members, and the appellate process, thereby providing a strong and effective legal framework for addressing injustices in service matters.
In addition, the Cabinet Committee discussed necessary amendments to the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010. Deliberations were also held on the proposed amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Protection of Harassment of Women at the Workplace (Amendment) Act, 2010, aimed at further strengthening, clarifying and making more effective the legal protections against harassment of women. These amendments seek to improve the definition of harassment, reporting mechanisms, inquiry procedures and grievance redressal processes in line with modern requirements, in order to promote a safe, dignified and equitable working environment.
The Law Minister directed that all matters discussed be finalized transparently and expeditiously to promote better governance and strengthen the legal system in the province.
