LG polls to ensure women voting, says Dr Riffat Sardar

The KPCSW established an election monitoring cell in its office to observe and monitor the process of polling in the 2nd phase of local bodies elections she said.
The election cell operated from 9th to 6:00 PM, followed up with district election commissioners, District Committees on the Status of Women and other relevant authorities to find out solution for the identified issues of women during vote polls.
Besides the commission teams comprising the commission members Ms. Nasreen Khattak, Ms. Shabnam Nawaz Advocate, Professor Doctor Kaneez Fatima and Ms. Huma Rehman and the staff Aimal Rasheed and Noor Muhammad travelled to Malaknd, Dir lower, Swat, Abbottabad, Kurram and Orakzai, to the assess the situation on the ground.
One objective of the close monitoring was also to check against any cultural practices or announcements in the community barring women from voting.
It is encouraging that no such major issues were reported except for general challenges relating lake of local polling staff and general discipline issues in somewhere in Malakand, Dir Lower and South Waziristan. The Concerns were shared timely by the commission with concerned for quick resolution.
The commission shall continue to monitor the situation until the completion of election to ensure women participation remains higher and without any hurdles.
