Provincial Minister for Health Khaliq Ur Rehman on Monday inaugurated a mammography centre at Khyber Medical University (KMU), saying the facility would help strengthen breast cancer screening and early diagnosis services across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Secretary Health Shahid Ullah Khan, KMU Vice Chancellor Dr Zia Ul Haq and senior officials of the health department and the university.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the provincial government was committed to improving women’s healthcare by expanding access to quality diagnostic and treatment facilities throughout the province. He said the establishment of the mammography centre reflected the government’s focus on preventive healthcare and the provision of modern medical services.
Khaliq Ur Rehman said mammography remained one of the most effective methods for the early detection of breast cancer, adding that timely diagnosis significantly improved treatment outcomes, reduced complications and lowered the financial burden on patients and their families.
He said the newly established facility had been equipped with modern diagnostic equipment and trained healthcare professionals to provide safe and reliable breast cancer screening services.
The minister urged women aged 40 years and above to undergo regular mammography screening, while advising younger women with a family history of breast cancer to consult their physicians about the need for early screening.
He stressed that public awareness and timely screening were key to reducing breast cancer-related deaths and improving women’s health outcomes.
The minister also reaffirmed the health department’s commitment to expanding specialised healthcare services and introducing modern medical facilities across the province.
He appreciated the efforts of Khyber Medical University, the Health Department and all those involved in establishing the mammography centre, expressing confidence that the facility would contribute to the early diagnosis of breast cancer and strengthen preventive healthcare services for women in the province.
