Punjab Defamation ACT-2024 which has been passed by Punjab Assembly (PA) has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).
A petition has been filed in LHC by journalists Jafar Ahmed Yar and Raja Riaz through Advocate Nadeem Sarwar. making chief minister Punjab and governor through principal secretary respondentss
The petitioners have taken plea the defamation act 2024 runs contrary to law and constitution. No new law can be enacted in the presence of defamation ordinance and the defamation act.
No consultation was made with the journalists in regard to Punjab defamation act-2024, This act has been brought in haste for controlling media and journalists.
The petitioners requested the court to declare Defamation Act 2024 null and void besides stopping its implementation.
