Polling in one each Village Councils (VC) in Landi Kotal and Bara was held peacefully here on Sunday; however the security forces did not allow the local journalist of Landi Kotal press club to converge the election process.
In Landi Kotal the election was conducted in VC 2 Dilkhad (Charbagh) while in Bara it was carried out in VC 22 Meri Khel(07) of district Khyber.
According to District Election Commissioner Shahid Ali, five polling stations had been established in both VCs among those three had been declared most sensitive.
Two separate polling stations were also set up for the women voters, he said.
Including 3827 women voters, a total of 8804 votes had been registered in two VCs, Shahid Ali said. As per the district Election Commission schedule, the polling started at 8:00 am and continued till 5:00 pm without any break.
Prior to it, a full proof security arrangement was set up and police force personnel were deployed at the polling stations to avoid any untoward incident.
On the polling day when a team of local media persons intended to visit the area for media converge, they were stopped by the Frontier Corp (FC) troops at Charbagh checkpoint and did not permit them.
According to the Inter Services Public Affairs statement due to the bordering area, security was the top concern therefore no alien was allowed to enter without proper identification.
Soon after, the polling was concluded, counting was started and according to unofficial result Independent candidate, Miss Zaliqa of VC 2, Dilkhad (Charbagh) Landi Kotal won the election by securing 656 votes.
Nahida of Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf(PTI)remained runner-up with 434 votes.
Result of the VC 22,Meri Khel 07 could not be ascertained till filing the report.
