KHYBER: People from different walks of life demanded of the Pak-Afghan officials in a peace rally held here at Bacha Khan Chawk Landi Kotal Bazaar on Friday to restore peace at Torkham Border. Scores of counclicers, political workers and members of civic society while carrying banner inscribed with slogans, like “we want peace in Pakistan and Afghanistan”, “war is not a solution of issue” etc. Addressing on the occasion Deputy Tehsil Chairman Wali Muhammad Shinwari,Aftab Shinwari,Jamat-e-Islam local leader Abdurrauf and others said that war will never be a solution to any matter therefore Pak-Afghan should resolve their issues through table talks. “Border closure not only suffers from bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan but also deprives thousands of people at both sides of the crossing to earn three time meals for their families,” they remarked. They went on that the arms battle broke out last day at Torkham Border in Pak and Afghan forces compelled the locals of Bacha Mena, the bordering village in Torkham to vacate their area due to security reasons and took refuge in Landi Kotal in addition with hundreds of Kabul bound Afghan citizens including patients stranded at the crossing. They urged officials of the both neighboring countries to settle their issues with dialogue and initiate forthwith measures to resume the Torkham Border for pedestrians as well as for traffic movement. The participants while chanting slogans and carrying white flags marched from Bacha Khan Square to in front of Landi Kotal press club where it dispersed peacefully. Our Correspondent
