Chief Executive Officer Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM), Shahid Khan has said that the drainage problem at Muqam Chowk during rains has been resolved, while concrete steps have been taken to address the long-standing 45 year old drainage issue at Shahedanu Bazaar.
He added that consultations have been held with traders of the bazaar and WSSCM’s technical team has already started work on resolving the problem. The technical teams carried out site identification yesterday to pinpoint the issues.
Speaking to media representatives at his office, Shahid Khan said that in Bari Cham and Bicket Gunj, residential areas are located below road level, which causes drainage problems during rains. To resolve this, a sewerage line is being constructed with the cooperation of the Asian Development Bank, and upon completion, the issue will be permanently resolved.
He further stated that encroachments have been identified over drains on Mardan Nowshera Road, Sugar Mills Bypass Road, Gaju Khan Road, Bank Road, Baghdada Gujar Garhi Road, and Kaskorona Road. These encroachments will be removed in collaboration with the district administration. Shahid Khan appealed to the business community to voluntarily remove encroachments over drains and to construct a 5×5 feet manhole every 15 feet to facilitate proper cleaning.
He added that from July 20th to September 11, 135 kilometers of drains have been cleaned in two shifts to ensure free flow of water during rains. The CEO also urged citizens not to throw garbage into drains to prevent future drainage issues.
