KARACHI (INP): Advisor to Chief Minister for Labour and Human Resources, Senator Saeed Ghani has said that thousands of workers in Sindh Province are not registered with Social Security that is why it has been decided to widen the scope of Social Security to other sectors including the workers of fisheries.
Addressing a seminar entitled “The Guidelines for Food Security, Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Fisheries” held here on Wednesday, Senator Saeed Ghani urged upon the representatives of Pakistan Fisher Forum to present their suggestions for the inclusion of workers of fisheries sector in social security network so that workers of this sector could also benefit from the social security incentives.
Advisor to CM further said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has assigned the portfolio of Labour Department to improve it for the welfare and betterment of the worker class. I have accepted this challenge and have taken drastic measures to bring improvement in Labour Department which will result in the benefit of the downtrodden people of the society, he added. He said that hardly 5% of the workers are covered through Social Security despite of having capacity of covering further 95% with some hard work.
Saeed Ghani said that worker class faces two basic problems of education and health for their children which could be resolved through social security for which Labour Department is working hard. He said that steps were being taken to accomplish the task of improving the Labour Department on urgent basis. He said that neither the CM Sindh nor any MPA or MNA was interfering in the affairs of the department and he has full authority to take decisions in favour of the workers. No any hindrance would be tolerated in Labour Department and all the benefits would surely be trickled down to the labourers, he maintained.
