Minister stresses provision of maximum scholarships to students

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister for higher education, archives and libraries Meena Khan Afridi on Tuesday emphasized the need for provision of maximum opportunities of international scholarships to the students.
He directed the concerned authorities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation (KPEF) to make links with different donor agencies and forums for creating more scholarships opportunities for students.
He said this while chairing a meeting of the KPEF in the committee room of the higher education department. Managing Director Fazal Khaliq along with other directors attended the meeting. The provincial minister was briefed about the KPEF functions, activities and initiatives.
During the presentation it was said that main objective of the foundation is to take measures for promotion, development and financing of education in private sector in line with education policy of government while also grants scholarships, stipends, fellowship to the students on merit-cum-in-affordability basis in public, private and autonomous institutions.
Besides, various funds of KPEF including endowment fund, chief minister KP scholarship program under CPEC were discussed. However, it was further said that 16 degree colleges for girls were established in the year 2002-2003 and around 57000 students were enrolled in these colleges from 2002 to 2017.
The provincial minister was further informed about the ongoing programs. NAVTTC training under” Prime Minister’s Youth Skills Development Program” for district Kohat at KPEF academy KDA Kohat, professional development courses, capacity building courses and inland scholarships also came under discussion.
In the briefing, it was said that the foundation is going towards digitalization and all its office affairs will become paperless.
On the occasion, Meena Khan directed KPEF authorities to provide scholarships opportunities to orphans on college and university level aimed at facilitating the orphans in getting their higher education.
He also urged on soft training courses and said that through various professional skills unemployment can be controlled.
Talking about the KPEF digitalization, the minister further directed to take up the digitalization case with the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar.
