MNA Hameed Hussain has formally written to the Speaker of the National Assembly, urging immediate action on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Kurram (NA-37). For the past three months, the Tall-Parachinar Road has remained closed, cutting off essential supplies such as food, medicine, and other life-saving resources.
Tragically, this blockade has resulted in the loss of over 200 innocent lives, with more children falling victim to the lack of medical care. The situation in Kurram continues to worsen, placing the lives of over 800,000 citizens in jeopardy.
In his letter, MNA Hameed Hussain highlighted the blatant violation of fundamental constitutional rights, including the right to life (Article 9), the dignity of individuals (Article 14), the right to free movement (Article 15), and equality before the law (Article 25).
He also reminded the Speaker that Pakistan, as a signatory to international laws, including the Geneva Conventions and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), has an obligation to ensure the protection of its citizens during such humanitarian crises.
MNA Hameed Hussain has requested that this critical issue be raised in the National Assembly under Rule 199, with an immediate discussion on the humanitarian impact of the blockade.
He has called for the Interior Minister to provide a detailed briefing on the law and order situation in the region, and has urged the government to take immediate steps to restore road access and resume two weekly PIA flights to Parachinar, which will be crucial in alleviating the suffering of the people in Kurram.
Speaking to the media, MNA Hameed Hussain expressed his deep frustration and disappointment, stating, “No country would tolerate the abandonment of a population of over 8 lakh, even for a single day.
Yet, my people have been stranded and suffering for the last three months. The government must act now to end this injustice and fulfill its duty to the people of Kurram.”
The situation in Kurram is a matter of life and death, and MNA Hameed Hussain’s call for immediate action is a reminder that it is the responsibility of the state to protect its citizens, especially in times of crisis.
