Murderer gets double life imprisonment after 18 years of absconding

PESHAWAR: A Sessions Court here Thursday sentenced a man to two counts of life imprisonment and imposed a total fine of Rs. 2 million after finding him guilty in a double murder case in which he remained a fugitive for 18 years. The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Mirza Muhammad Kashif. According to the prosecution, the accused, identified as Imran was charged with killing his wife and mother-in-law in 2006 within the jurisdiction of Mathra Police Station. APP
The victims died on the spot after being shot.
Following the incident a case of double murder was registered against the accused. However, he managed to evade arrest and remained absconding for nearly 18 years.
Police finally apprehended the suspect in 2024. After the completion of legal proceedings, the court found him guilty and handed down two life sentences.
In addition to imprisonment, the court ordered the convict to pay a total fine of Rs. 2 million as compensation to the legal heirs of the victims.
The decision marks the conclusion of a long-standing case and highlights the persistence of law enforcement agencies in bringing fugitives to justice, even after so many years.
