Advisor to the Chief Minister on Anti-Corruption Musaddiq Abbasi has emphasized the urgent Need for self-accountability in the fight against corruption.
Addressing a seminar on self-accountability at University of Peshawar (UoP) here on Monday, he stated that corruption, bribery, and nepotism act like poison, eating away at society like termites. He stressed that those involved in corruption must face strict punishments, particularly targeting elite corruption, which he claimed was a major issue as illicit money is often transferred abroad.
“Awareness, prevention, and law enforcement are key to tackling corruption,” he said, adding that countries with strong rule of law experience less corruption and greater prosperity.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Peshawar University, Dr Naeem Qazi, welcomed Musaddiq Abbasi and appreciated his insightful discussion on self-accountability.
During his address, Abbasi elaborated on corruption’s impact on individual and collective life, citing examples of strict anti-corruption measures in various countries.
He emphasized that real change begins with self-accountability, urging individuals to transform themselves first to bring broader societal change.
He also encouraged students to focus on character building through reading, particularly studying the Quran, the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and the works of Allama Iqbal. He advised them to always speak the truth and refrain from lying, asserting that success lies in honesty and integrity.
