PESHAWAR
The provincial president of Awami National Party (ANP) has criticized the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over its silence on fresh corruption allegations at Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus service. Aimal Wali alleged that former Pakistan Tehreek –i-Insaf led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) had allegedly awarded the tender of BRT buses with low market experience, adding that anomalies and violation of rules and regulation prompt changes in the estimates of the project.
He said that NAB should initiate a proper investigation into the matter without wasting more time and ostensible reasons. He termed the NAB’s silence on the bus fires, delays in completion, and exorbitant cost hikes as clear evidence of impartial accountability.
Talking to members after the party cabinet meeting at the Bacha Khan Center in Peshawar here on Thursday Aimal Wali Khan said that even after the new revelations about the BRT, the NAB’s further silence was clear evidence of impartiality. Does the NAB need more proof of how much corruption has taken place in this project.? Excessive increase in cost, delay in completion, change in design, fire incidents, what details were shared with the public.? How much corruption did anyone get in awarding a contract to an inexperienced company?. Will there be any questioning former chief minister Pervez Khattak, and other ministers?.
The company which was declared ineligible in the bidding has been given a contract for BRT buses. When will the investigation take place? Aimal Wali Khan said that it seems that Pervez Khattak earned a lot of money in this project even outside the country.
He said that billions of rupees have been spent on an unnecessary project, adding that the Chief Justice of Pakistan should take notice of corruption in the project.
