Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Women Wing Central Vice President (CVP) for Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KP) Neelum Khan Toru on Friday strongly condemning the Lahore motorway rape incident stressed on law enforcement departments to immediately arrest the culprits.
“Such heinous crimes against women are unacceptable in any civilized society,” she said.
She said the incident is reflection of the weak apparatus of state authorities leading to barbaric sexual violence against women and children.
Neelum Khan Toru said that weak justice system with the patriarchy and systemic discrimination against women results in such incidents and encourage perpetrators.
Rape needs to be considered as uncompromisable offence,” she said.
She added that it is equally condemnable to see the police and section of the press blaming the victim instead of the culprits and admitting the negligence.
It is an indicator of the depressing situation of women in Pakistan, who are not safe in homes and outside, said Neelum Khan Toru.
She lamented that since long the system has enabled an environment of violence against women, but it is now time for all women to stand together in the face of this systemic oppression.
She added that it is also necessary to initiate sensitization programs to enhance the capacity of law enforcement officials in responsibly tackling crimes of such nature and increase the induction of women in the judiciary.
The law enforcement departments must apprehend those responsible for this horrific incident and ensure justice is served, she said.
Neelum Khan Toru said that injustices and social crimes need an end in the country.
