ISLAMABAD: Chairman Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) Syed Qamar Raza on Thursday rejected claims made in a press release and social media campaign by the Joint Action Committee (JAAC), saying facts had been misrepresented regarding his role and intentions. In a clarification statement, Syed Qamar Raza said the JAAC press release presented a distorted version of the facts. He said he had contacted the Joint Action Committee solely with the intention of ending violence and promoting a peaceful resolution of the issue. “My efforts were purely aimed at restoring peace, but they are being subjected to unnecessary speculation,” he said. The OPF Chairman maintained that addressing the concerns of overseas Pakistanis remained his foremost priority. He said the majority of those approached had responded positively and wisely to his proposal, adding that only a few individuals were attempting to exploit the matter for cheap publicity. Syed Qamar Raza said he had represented his institution and the people it serves with sincerity and responsibility. “My mandate is rooted in my love for this country and its people, and nothing can prevent me from fulfilling that mission,” he added.
