On the first anniversary of the general elections, opposition parties held a “Thanksgiving Rally” in the provincial capital here on Saturday.
Political parties, including PML-N, PPP, and JUI, along with traders’ organizations, participated in the rally organized outside the Peshawar Bala Hisar Fort.
A large number of party workers and people from various walks of life attended the rally, carrying banners, placards, and flags with slogans marking the Day of Victory and Thanksgiving.
Participants also paid tribute to the security forces and law enforcement agencies for their sacrifices for the country and nation.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP leader Arbab Zarak Khan congratulated the nation on the completion of one year of elections, stating that development projects were ongoing across the country.
He condemned the dismissal of employees recruited during the caretaker period due to the lack of funds in KP.
He criticized the PTI government for giving the province the gifts of unemployment, insecurity, and inflation.
PML-N MPA Alhaj Malik Tariq Awan, addressing the rally, stated that celebrating February 8 as Victory Day marks the restoration of democracy, bringing an end to the era of fascism in the country.
The PML-N leader blamed a particular political party for KP’s worsening situation, accusing it of engaging in confrontational politics for the past 13 years to mislead the public and inflict economic and social harm.
Malik Tariq alleged that the party has consistently promoted civil disobedience, disrupted communication systems, and incited people against state institutions.
He accused the PTI government of aligning youth with anti-national elements, damaging national politics, stability, and public property.
Citing incidents like May 9 and November 26 as evidence, he labeled PTI an anti-national party that led young people toward extremism and drug addiction.
He claimed that PTI’s politics has only brought inflation, unemployment, poverty, hunger, and ignorance, leaving the public with nothing but devastation.
