The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) continues to implement effective measures to ensure safe travel for commuters and equal enforcement of law across national highways and motorways. On the directives of Inspector General NHMP, Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry, a special enforcement campaign against overcharging, overloading, and other traffic violations has been underway with full vigour since 15 March 2026. During this campaign, strict action was taken against Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) involved in overcharging. As a result, an amount exceeding PKR 6.7 million, which had been unlawfully collected from passengers in the form of excess fares during Eid-ul-Fitr, refunded to passengers. In addition to overcharging, large-scale enforcement actions were carried out against overloading and vehicles operating with incomplete travel documents. So far, more than 76,000 challans have been issued, aimed not only at ensuring compliance with the law but also at safety of lives and property of passengers. In line with the government’s austerity policy and fuel conservation measures, special steps have also been taken since 12 March 2026 to ensure compliance with revised speed limits. More than 48,000 vehicles have been fined for speeding violations to date. NHMP officers are actively engaged at toll plazas across the country, educating road users about revised speed limits, road safety principles, and safe travel practices. Along with providing excellent travel facilities, Motorway Police officers also distributed gifts among citizens on the occasion of Eid. Owing to the effective strategy of the Motorway Police, no untoward incident was reported on motorways and highways during Eid-ul-Fitr. Citizens are encouraged to report any instances of overcharging or overloading directly to Motorway Police officers, via the helpline 130, or through the official social media handle @NHMP. The National Highways and Motorway Police remains committed to public service, transparency, and impartial enforcement of law, and will continue its efforts to ensure safe and comfortable travel for all citizens.
