Pak Shinwari Football Club (FC) was crowned the new football champion by defeating Shinwari Sotari FC in penalty kicks in the All Pakistan football Independence tournament played in Landi Kotal on Wednesday evening.
Pak Shinwari FC scored three goals out of five however Shinwari Satori FC put two balls in the net.
The sports event was organized by Khyber Sports Club at Government High School, Landi Kotal ground where thousands of local spectators witnessed the final competition between the two best teams.
Commandant Khyber Rifle Col Saeed Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion who later on distributed trophies and cash prizes among the winning teams and shining players.
District Sports Officer Muhammad Hussain, Tehsil Chairman Haji Shah Khalid, CEO Creative Builders Ziaul Haq Afridi and others were also present on the occasion.
Rehman Shinwari was awarded best player of the tournament while Sajjad Khan was granted the prize of top scorer of the event.
Almost 64 best teams from across the country besides more than 30 national and international players’ participated in the tournament.
Beside rough ground and lack of facilities, the sports event has been organized regularly by the Khyber Sports Club for the last three decades that put a question mark on the efficiency of the sports department, organizers said.
The spectators not only enjoyed the game played by the both teams but also demanded construction of grassy ground and sitting pavilions so that the local footballers could display their talent more effectively.
