PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of strong winds, thunderstorms and rain in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Sept 12 to 17, with the possibility of flash floods in upper districts between Sept 14 and 17. According to a weather advisory issued by the PDMA on Friday, heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods in upper parts of the province during the period. It warned of landslides in upper districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad. The authority also cautioned about the risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Peshawar, Mardan and Swabi. In view of the expected weather conditions, the PDMA directed all district administrations to take precautionary measures and ensure continuous monitoring of rivers, streams and rainwater channels. Relevant departments were also asked to keep drainage systems clean and functional and ensure the availability of rescue personnel and necessary equipment to deal with any emergency. The PDMA advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall and exercise extra caution. The public was urged to take shelter at safe places during thunderstorms, stay away from power lines and other hazardous objects, and avoid entering or crossing floodwater. DLP Report
