DLP Report
PESHAWAR
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday issued a weather alert warning of rain, strong winds and thunderstorms across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 6 to 8, with the possibility of flash floods, landslides and urban flooding in several districts.
According to the PDMA, widespread rain, accompanied by strong winds and heavy downpours at isolated places, is expected in most parts of the province during the forecast period.
The authority warned of possible landslides in Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra and Kohistan districts. It also cautioned that rainfall could increase water levels in rivers and streams in hilly areas.
Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Swat and Abbottabad, the PDMA said.
The authority also warned that strong winds could damage weak structures, electricity poles, solar panels and standing crops.
The PDMA directed district administrations to remain prepared and ensure emergency arrangements were in place, while rescue agencies and other relevant departments were instructed to stay on high alert.
The public, particularly tourists, has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the spell and stay away from rivers, streams and mountainous areas. Residents have also been urged to avoid taking shelter under trees or near weak buildings and electricity poles during storms.
Parents were advised not to allow children to play near rivers, rainwater drains or open pits.
The PDMA said its Emergency Operations Centre was fully operational and advised people to contact its helpline, 1700, in case of any emergency.
