UMERKOT
A peace rally was organized here on Monday by AWARE under the Aawaz-II Programme to mark the International Day of Peace and reaffirm the region’s tradition of pluralism and communal harmony.
The rally commenced from the historic Umerkot Fort and concluded at the Umerkot Press Club, bringing together social activists, students, youth, and local residents. Participants carried placards advocating tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and social cohesion.
Addressing the gathering outside the press club, speakers including social leader Bansi Lal Malhi, Advocate Muhammad Bux Kunbhar, and Aawaz-II Project Manager Kulsoom Sindhoo emphasized the need for sustained dialogue to safeguard the district’s diverse social fabric. They noted that Umerkot’s geographic and cultural diversity remains a cornerstone of its community resilience.
In addition to peacebuilding efforts, organizers highlighted civic concerns regarding the rapid urban expansion of Umerkot city. They called upon the district administration and relevant authorities to implement proper urban planning and install a CCTV surveillance system at key public junctions, markets, and entry points to enhance public safety and security.
