Peshawar(PR):District Administration of Peshawar has chalked out a comprehensive strategy for prevention of smoking at public places as well as use of Hubble Bubble “Sheesha”.
Raids will be conducted on restaurants and hotels in Peshawar city where “Sheesha” is used. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of District Implementation & Monitoring Committee (DI&MC) for Tobacco Control, held in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Peshawar, chaired by AC Peshawar, Officers of Departments of Police, Tobacco Control Cell, Social Welfare, Health, Education, Traffic Police, Information and representatives of Transporters, Hotels and Bazar Union attended.
The meeting was informed that in the first phase awareness campaign will be launched through Bill Boards, Posters, Pamphlets, Seminars and Workshops to sensitize the public viz-a-viz hazards of smoking and use of “Sheesha”.
Fine will be imposed on smoking at public places for which various teams were constituted comprising Police and Health authorities and other concerned departments. It merits to mention here that Govt: has already tabled a Bill in the Provincial Assembly banning smoking at public places, however public awareness is most important aspect to discourage smoking at public places with public support and cooperation.
