The Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) has called on the Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi to immediately issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for pending faculty promotions. In a statement issued on Thursday, PUTA warned that if the demand was not met by next week, the faculty at the University of Peshawar will initiate a complete boycott of classes and other university affairs. According to the PUTA, repeated attempts over the past three months to secure a meeting with the KP Minister for Higher Education have gone unanswered. The aim of the meeting was to remind the minister of his public commitments—particularly his promise to issue the NOC for faculty post advertisements based on seniority.
The association expressed frustration over the continued delay in faculty promotions, which have remained stalled since 2018 due to the absence of regular advertisements.
This issue, PUTA said, has led to a significant weakening of the university’s academic strength, with 12 to 15 senior faculty members retiring each year without replacements.
Despite multiple assurances from both the Chief Minister and the Minister for Higher Education, the promises remain unfulfilled, the association stated.
The association further alleged that the delay was being influenced by certain “political elements” seeking to advance personal and political interests, to the detriment of academic integrity.
Calling the situation unacceptable, PUTA urged immediate resolution of the issue to prevent further disruption in university operations.
