The Peshawar Uplift and Development Task Force, constituted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, held a meeting on Saturday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah to review measures for the city’s improvement and development.
The meeting was attended by MNA Asif Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Muhammad Asim Khan, Secretary Planning and Development, Commissioner Peshawar Division, heads of PDA and WSSP, along with other concerned officials.
The forum discussed coordination among departments for ongoing development initiatives, improvement of authorities’ performance, enforcement of building control regulations, and effective implementation of Peshawar’s master plan.
Proposals for better traffic management and other civic issues also came under review. The Director General PDA briefed the meeting on the city’s beautification drive, ongoing development schemes, and measures to enhance the authority’s capacity.
It was decided that cleanliness and beautification of the city would be given top priority through coordinated efforts of all departments. The DG PDA informed that comprehensive packages had been prepared following a detailed survey, which would soon be implemented.
The forum directed that all drainage channels be cleaned through a joint campaign with WSSP to prevent urban flooding during monsoon rains.
To address traffic congestion, the completion of the Ring Road and its linkages was declared a top priority for easing commuter pressure and ensuring better travel facilities.
The meeting also decided to formally notify all service delivery mechanisms of PDA and establish an effective call-back system to monitor public complaints.
The DG PDA further informed that the authority’s payments would shift to a cashless system by December, while all internal operations would become paperless by September 30.
Suggestions were also made to outsource water supply and sanitation services to improve efficiency through competition, while the establishment of an Enforcement Directorate was also discussed.
The forum proposed the introduction of Khuli Kacheris and an AI-based complaint registration system to enhance citizen engagement, restore public trust, and improve service delivery.
Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah urged all stakeholders to collectively fulfill their responsibilities to transform Peshawar into a modern, safe, and livable city, ensuring timely progress and regular reporting.
