violations of election code
PESHAWAR
The PHC on Wednesday dismissed the petitions filed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Sheher Naz Umar Ayub challenging the notices issued by the ECP for alleged violations of the election code of conduct. A two-member bench headed by Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Waqar announced the reserved verdict. According to the petitioners’ counsel, the ECP had issued notices to the Chief Minister and Sheher Naz over allegations of using threatening language and holding political gatherings outside the jurisdiction of NA-18 during the by-election campaign.
The notices claimed that the Chief Minister used intimidating words and that the referenced political gatherings were not held within the constituency limits.
The ECP’s counsel informed the court that the authority to take action on violations of the election code rests solely with the Election Commission and the petitioners must wait for the Commission’s final proceedings.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the petitions and concluded the case, stating that the detailed written judgment will be issued later.
