PESHAWAR
Petition against 3 holidays in a week in the courts has been filed in Peshawar High Court (PHC).
According to media reports the petition has been filed by Atlas Khan advocate through Suleman Khan advocate. Registrar PHC has been made respondent in the petition.
The petition said PHC issued notification for closure of courts 3 days in a week on March 12 which is against the independence of judiciary and a major impediment in dispensation of timely justice.
The petition further said the courts should remain open for 7 days and 24 hours so that people could get timely justice. Judges are servants of people and if they will not work then they are not entitled to salary. Supreme Court (SC) decisions are in place in this regard.
Under section 352 of criminal procedure doors of the courts should remain open 24 hours for the people.
The court has been requested in the petition that the notification issued on March 12 regarding three holidays in a week in the courts `be declared null and void.
It is pertinent to mention here PHC had issued notification on 3 holidays in a week and 50 percent reduction in judges fuel under energy conservation steps and the directives of National Judicial Policy Making Committee.
