The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC), a leading healthcare facility specializing in heart-related diseases, has warned that it may suspend treatment under the Sehat Card program from October 1 if outstanding payments were not cleared by State Life Insurance Corporation.
Accourding to an official communication sent to State Life, PIC stated that the insurance corporation owes the hospital Rs1.5 billion in unpaid dues. The hospital administration warned that the continued non-payment has severely impacted the supply of essential medicines and medical equipment.
Furthermore, PIC expressed concerns over the viability of State Life’s new contract, calling it “not worth considering” under the current financial circumstances.
On the broader scale, the provincial government has also failed to release Rs 12 billion in arrears to State Life Insurance. According to officials from the Health Department, the provincial government was currently facing financial constraints, which have disrupted payments related to the Sehat Card initiative.
Health authorities stated that efforts were ongoing to resolve the financial issues and ensure continuity of services under the health insurance program.
