RAWALPINDI
Rawalpindi Cantonment Board The Federal Cabinet has resolved a long-standing issue between the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) regarding the boundaries of municipal authority.
This decision follows tireless efforts from both the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and CDA authorities, bringing relief to the decades-long issue affecting the people of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board was established in 1849, with its boundaries clearly defined in 1957. In contrast, Islamabad and the CDA were established in 1960, with the regional boundaries of Islamabad defined in a 1963 notification.
This led to disputes over municipal authority boundaries in sectors G-13, G-14, H-13, H-15, I-12, and I-14, which were previously part of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board. A dispute arose regarding the boundaries of municipal authority among them, and the public faced various issues due to the resulting situation.
The Federal Cabinet’s decision resolves this issue, with the western region of H-13, from the railway line to GT Road, and the area south of the railway line to GT Road, up to IJP Road, remaining under the municipal authority of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board.
The remaining sectors will be excluded from the board’s municipal boundaries. The new boundaries will include areas adjacent to Golra Road, EME College, the Diary Farm, Chungi No. 26, and the Motorway Chowk, among others.
This resolution will bring ease to the public and institutions, and it’s essential to note that this determination only applies to municipal authority and does not affect the border boundaries between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
