Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Population Welfare, Malik Liaquat Khan, has issued a significant message on the occasion of World Population Day, highlighting the urgent need for family planning in Pakistan. He emphasized that unchecked population growth is placing immense pressure on the country’s limited resources and contributing to global issues such as climate change, global warming, and various socio-economic challenges.
In his address, Malik Liaquat Khan appealed to the public to take family planning seriously and adopt responsible practices for the sake of a better future. “For an organized, healthy, and prosperous society, it is imperative to control the rapid population growth,” he stated.
He expressed concern that Pakistan remains among the countries with one of the highest population growth rates in the world, which is negatively impacting critical sectors such as education, healthcare, employment, and housing. Additionally, the strain on natural resources is leading to severe environmental consequences.
Malik Liaquat Khan noted that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, through the Population Welfare Department, is actively providing free medical services, counseling, and awareness campaigns to support families in making informed decisions about family planning.
He also called upon religious scholars, media professionals, educators, and civil society organizations to play a proactive role in spreading awareness and fostering a culture of responsible parenthood.
“We must ensure our children grow up in an environment where they have access to quality education, healthcare, and job opportunities. This can only be achieved if we bring population growth under control,” he added.
