The landowners of Abdul Wali Khan university, Agricultural University, Bacha Khan Medical College staged a protest rally in front of the press club against the non-payment of lands and gave an ultimatum of two months for payment of arrears and provision of jobs and threatened that if their legitimate demands are not resolved, they will forcefully stop the teaching activities in Abdul Wali Khan university in the month of September and commit self-immolation along with children in front of the university.
Large numbers of the owners of lands acquired for AWKUM, Agriculture University and Bacha Khan medical college participated in the rally.
Later on addressing to a news conference at Mardan press club lands owner of Khora Banda, Plateau, Mayar and Darbu Kali areas along with local leaders Usman Ghani, Naeem Khan Mayar, Hafiz Waqar, Majid Advocate, Shah Hussain Afridi and others said that 2009 they were evicted from their homes by taking two and a half thousand kanals of land from them for the construction of the above-mentioned universities.
They added that despite the lapse of 15 years, not a single promise has been fulfilled.
They added that in the 9 billion rupees payment, only 66 million rupees have been paid so far. They argued that the Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court in 2020 had also issued orders for immediate payment to the owners, but the payments have not been made to the owners yet.
They argued that monthly additional payments of Rs 25 lakh per month under the Land Requisition Act are an example of incompetent provincial government while according to the agreement, the owners were not even given jobs, which is great cruelty.
They threatened that if the payments are not made to us by September 1st then they will hold a protest in front of Abdul Wali Khan University and stop the teaching process and will self-immolate along with their children.
They demanded the provincial government to pay them their land payment immediately otherwise the responsibility of the situation will fall on the government and related institutions.
