Party convention turns into a massive power show
PESHAWAR
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leaders have said contesting elections is their democratic right and no one would be allowed to steal the mandate of millions of voters.
PTI was allowed to organize a workers convention in Peshawar by the district administration after issuing a non-objection certificate on Wednesday. The convention, which later turned into a massive power show at a marriage hall on GT Road Peshawar, was addressed by the party’s leaders and demanded a level playing field for general elections scheduled for February 8 2024.
It was the first political gathering of PTI in the provincial capital after May 9 incidents that erupted across the country, including Peshawar, when former PTI chairman Imran Khan was arrested by police in Islamabad in an alleged corruption case.
They claimed that PTI would sweep upcoming general elections in Peshawar and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if polls were held in a fair and transparent manner.
Addressing the convention, Taimur Khan Jhagra, PTI leader and former provincial finance minister, claimed that despite all odds party workers supporting the party and stand firmly by the ideology of Imran Khan, adding “Nawaz Sharif is a ladla (blue-eyed) now a days but youth of the nation has rejected the politics of ladhla”.
PTI would bag a majority of seats and would lead in coming general elections despite all odds and difficulties, adding the overwhelming support of the party workers and supporters have made the party unbeatable in polls.
PTI leaders Sher Afzal Marwat, Arbab Sheer Ali, Asim Khan, Irfan Saleem, Hafizur Rehman, Zahoor Qadir, PTI female leader from Chitral Bibi Jan, PTI social media team head, Ikran Khattana, and office bearers of the party in Peshawar were also present. A large number of PTI workers participated in the convention and chanted slogans in favor of Imran Khan.
Sher Afzal Marwat, the party chairman’s lawyer, while addressing the convention claimed that efforts are underway to minus Imran Khan from politics but no one can do it as millions of people are supporting him.
He said unprecedented relief has been granted to Mian Nawaz Sharif in various court cases, adding that Imran Khan and his party leaders are being subjected to cruelty and locked up in jails.
Sher Afzal also announced a similar worker convention in Nowshera on Thursday (today). He said Imran Khan had made Mahmood Khan and Pervez Khattak leaders but they did not stand firm with the party and PTI in rainy days.
