KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President and former Federal Minister Syed Ali Haider Zaidi held a press conference on Wednesday at the PTI Sindh Secretariat in Karachi. Besides Mr. Zaidi, former Chief Minister of Sindh Liaquat Ali Jatoi and PTI Sindh Vice President Arsalan Agha were present. The PTI Sindh President condemned the arrest of PTI Central Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry in the early hours of the morning by the Punjab Police on non-sense charges of threatening the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and their family members. Furthermore, Mr. Zaidi condemned the caretaker Punjab Government and the Imported Government for trying to arrest former Prime Minister Imran Khan at his Lahore residence to gauge the public reaction. He warned both governments not to cross the redline by arresting Imran Khan, as this would create more chaos throughout the country.
Mr. Zaidi also expressed regrets that the same officers in the Punjab Police who tortured PTI leadership and workers on May 25, 2022, have been brought back by the caretaker regime in Punjab. The PTI Sindh President pointed out that Pakistan is facing multiple crises at this time and that the political victimization of Imran Khan along with the PTI leadership and workers is not the solution.
Mr. Zaidi questioned whether the ECP has suddenly become a “sacred cow” that cannot be criticized even though its ability to conduct free and fair elections is doubtful. A good example of its incompetence is the two phases of local elections held in Sindh.
The PTI Sindh President lamented that Uzair Baloch has been acquitted in his 25th case and if this trend continues, he could be eligible to become caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh. With criminals roaming the streets and being acquitted by our courts, Mr. Zaidi wonders what lessons are we teaching to our future generations.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Zaidi stated that caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi has proven his loyalty to the Imported Government and anti-PTI bias. However, power is temporary and Mr. Naqvi should worry about the final judgement to be made by the Almighty Allah (SWT).
Former Chief Minister of Sindh Liaquat Ali Jatoi addressed the press conference by mentioning that the current government has lost its mandate with the acceptance of 123 PTI MNAs’ resignations and the dissolution of KPK and Punjab Assemblies.
Mr. Jatoi wondered what former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s crime was for which he is facing so much political persecution at the hands of the Imported Government. “Is Imran Khan guilty of raising awareness among the public? Is Imran Khan guilty of wanting a free and fair election?”
The former Sindh Chief Minister lamented that our forefathers didn’t give sacrifices to create Pakistan so that people like Asif Zardari and the Sharifs could rule over us and do corruption.
Mr. Jatoi stated that despite the rigging done by the PPP, PTI was successful in Mehar Dadu in winning 8 wards out of 14. PPP tried every trick in the book like changing results but couldn’t overcome the popular support of PTI in Mehar.
He also was adamant that the people’s mandate should never be stolen at any cost. In his concluding statement, Mr. Jatoi appealed for snap elections for the sake of Pakistan and to stop the political victimization of Imran Khan.
