ISLAMABAD / RAWALPINDI
Workers and Supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday took to the streets of Rawalpindi to protest against delay in filing of the First Information Report (FIR) of assassination attempt on PTI Chairman Imran Khan. More than 72 hours have passed and the mystery remains unresolved as the FIR of Wazirabad incident could not be filed yet. However on Monday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan directed Punjab police chief Faisal Shahkar to register the FIR of the gun attack on PTI chief Imran Khan within 24 hours.
During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Umar Ata Bandial warned of taking suo motu notice if the FIR of the attack was not registered.
Later on Monday noon, the PTI workers lead by Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan and other local leadership, carried out protests at Murree Road. They blocked the road and chanted slogans in favor of Imran. The Islamabad police, in a tweet, said that troops of the capital police and the Rangers have been sent to Lahore and Peshawar after protesters blocked the Islamabad motorway.
PTI supporters also blocked the Motorway tool plaza near the Islamabad International Airport, potentially suspending the two way traffic. Till last reports, the sources were claiming that PTI aimed at converting those protests into sit-ins.
