Quality education inevitable for economic development: VC

Vice Chancellor, Karakuram International University (KIU), Professor Dr. Ataullah Shah here Monday said quality education was inevitable for progress and economic development of a country and vowed to utilize all available resources for promotion of quality education and research works in the university.
“My first target is to ensure quality education to students and promote research works in the university,” he told media persons here. “No development and progress is possible without quality education,” he said, adding the role of universities in spreading rays of education in the society is of a paramount importance.
The VC said bolstering of education and research activities besides transferring of education from one generation to another, creation of awareness about research and finding of solutions of existing problems carried vital importance in reformation of the society.
He said great responsibilities rest on shoulders of KIU’s scholars to play constructive role for solutions of existing problems of Gilgit Baltistan.
The VC said efforts would be made to work on issues like glaciers’ melting, effects and causes of climate change and global warming and find out its workable solutions.
For this purpose, he said, a special endowment fund of Rs10.5million were setup so that scholars can easily make research works on issues of climate change, melting of glaciers and suggest workable solutions for these issues.
The VC said KIU will closely work with national and international universities for promotion of research on national issues and has appreciated the role of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad for encouraging research works.
He said HEC management has informed that a mega project would soon be launched in Gilgit Baltistan with assistance of Chinese Academy of Sciences and KIU’s researchers will make work on it extensively.
The VC said KIU was an important university of Gilgit Baltistan and its Hunza, Ghazar and Dirmir Campuses would be made online.
