Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretary General Salman Akram Raja on Friday said that the upcoming hearing of cases involving party founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi will be held on April 22, adding that the PTI chief is “fighting a battle for the country’s freedom and Constitution.”
Addressing the All Pakistan Lawyers’ Jirga at Nishtar Hall, he said the legal fraternity had historically played a key role in upholding constitutional supremacy, adding that lawyers had endured imprisonment and faced hardships for the rule of law.
A large number of lawyers from across the country attended the event.
Mr Raja said there was a continuing need to restore constitutional order and strengthen the justice system, praising what he described as the lawyers’ community’s role as a “voice for the nation.”
Expressing concern over Ms Bibi’s health, he claimed she had been shifted to hospital in a critical condition and underwent a medical procedure before being returned to custody, alleging lack of adequate medical care.
He also stated that both Mr Khan and Ms Bibi were not being allowed to meet, calling the situation unacceptable.
Mr Raja said the party was united in its stance against what he termed injustice, adding that PTI and its supporters stood “like a wall” against oppression.
