ISLAMABAD
Supreme Court (SC) has fixed Punjab Election Tribunals case for hearing on September 24.
A five members bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa will hear the case on September 24.
It may be mentioned the court had restrained the tribunals from working on previous hearing. The court too had directed Chief Election Commissioner to make consultation with chief justice Lahore High Court. On June 14 SC had fixed for hearing petition of Election Commission against Lahore High Court (LHC) decision regarding formation of election tribunals.
Election commission filed appeal against the decision of Justice Shahid Karim of LHC ,
It was said in the appeal plea formation of election tribunals is mandate of election commission. The decision of LHC regarding formation of tribunals is against the law. High cannot exercise the powers of election commission.
Election commission appealed to SC to nullify LHC decision and fix its appeal against LHC decision for hearing tomorrow.
It is pertinent to mention here that Chief Justice Shahzad Malik had issued orders on June 12 for formation of 8 tribunals on the decision of LHC.
