ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has wrapped up petition by Punjab government for cancellation of bail of former Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Pervaiz Elahi . The court has dismissed the appeal plea in connection with cancellation of bail of Muhammad Khan Bhatti as well. Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi appeared in SC in connection with illegal appointments in Punjab Assembly case. During the hearing of the case in SC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi , prosecutor general Punjab took the plea the accused have sought adjournment 18 times so far and they are not appearing in trial. The CJP inquired why the accused are not appearing in trial court. Ali Zafar counsel for the accused told the court the claims of the prosecution are against the facts. Pervaiz Elahi remained in jail for one year. Neither any charge has been framed nor has any evidence been provided so far. The CJP remarked presenting evidence is responsibility of the prosecution. However the attendance of the accused in court is compulsory. Abusing the law cannot be allowed. The SC maintained if the accused persons donot appear in the trial court then the respective court is entitled to cancel their bail. The SC directed the trial court to hear the case within two weeks.
