PESHAWAR
President of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Fuad Ishaq urged the government to take pragmatic steps for promotion of foreign investment in the country.
The SCCI chief said a conducive environment should be provided for local and foreign investors.
He also called for offering special incentives and facilities to foreign investors.
The chamber president steered the need of signing the ‘charter of economy’ while keeping view of the prevailing economic instability.
Fuad Ishaq was talking to president of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Nasir Awan during a meeting here at the chamber’s house, according to a press release issued here on Friday.
Ijaz Khan Afridi, vice president of the chamber and senior journalist Aftab Ahmad alias Lala also present during the meeting.
The meeting agreed to make joint efforts to enhance bilateral trade between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, exchange of business delegations, launching joint ventures, program and taking mutual benefits from each other’s experience for business expansion and removal of obstacles in the way of mutual trade.
Ishaq said KP is a lucrative destination for local as well foreign investment wherein ample opportunities are available to make investment in natural deposits, like mining, oil, gas marble and other potentials.
He invited the foreign investors to make investment afore-mentioned sectors in KP and initiate joint ventures and programs and take mutual advantages by exploring new investment avenues and each other’s experiences.
Nasir Awan said BCCI is taking proactive measures for facilitating the Pakistani business community and investors to improve the current bilateral trade volume between two countries and lead Pakistan’s economy toward stability and sustainable growth.
Fuad Ishaq called upon the authorities concerned to take tangible steps to enhance demand for Pakistani products in the UK and EU market.
The SCCI chief stressed the need for ripping the benefits of the EU’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences+ (GSP+) status so that the country’s bilateral trade with EU nations can be further improved.
He urged both governments to take joint steps to facilitate the business community to further strengthen the bilateral trade volume.
It is noted to mention here that the BCCI and SCCI had already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aimed at further improving bilateral trade and economic relations and better facilities for the business community of the both countries by joint initiatives and programs.
