Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secretary higher education Aneela Mehfooz Durani here on Thursday inaugurated two-days book-fair held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House Mardan.
The two-day book-fair was jointly organized by district administration Mardan and district youth office.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secretary higher education Miss Aneela Fehfooz Durani was chief guest on the occasion.
Prominent among the participants were included Commissioner Mardan division Yosaf Raheem, City Mayor Mardan Himayatullah Mayar advocate, deputy commissioner Mardan Abdur Rehman, director elementary and secondary education Iqbal Khan, youth officer Usman Khan.
Besides, large number of students and letterary figures were also present on the occasion.
Addressing participants of the inaugural ceremony, the chief guest Miss Aneela Mehfooz Durani told that books were like good friends and teachers. She was of the opinion that books guide them towards good directions.
“We get knowledge as well as it teaches us about different subjects and important topics,” he maintained, adding that in the Holy Quran God says that getting of education and knowledge was compulsory on each and every Muslim male and female.
The commissioner Mardan Yousaf Raheem expressed that they were getting away by each passing day from books owing to excessive use of electronic instruments and tools.
“It is good to come back towards reading of books. We are going to not only modernise but also to increase number of books in our public libraries,” he claimed.
He pointed out that they would organise book-fairs in different parts of the district with purpose to attract people towards book reading.
Besides, they were planning to organise book reviews weekly in schools and colleges. Similarly, writing and quiz competitions would also be organised in educational institutions meant to bring students and general public towards book readings.
CITY Mayor Himayatullah Mayar advocate while addressing on the occasion, said that knowledge could be gotten from books and experiences.
“It is the era of electronic and social media as the world has been advanced,” he said, adding that they needed to update their books as well.
He claimed that the City government was planning to establish 100 libraries each in mosques and hujras so that people could get benefit from it.
The deputy commissioner Mardan Abdur Rehman told that they organise the book-fair with the purpose to restore book culture as no nation could get progress without education and knowledge.
He claimed that the number of book-readers was very high some 50-years back but now the number of readers was decreasing by each passing day due to the use of modern media and gadgets. He was of the view that it had badly affected and damaged the capability of thinking and nayalises.
